With the long-awaited season 4 premiere of Project Runway right around the corner (mark your calendars for November 14th @ 10/9c), I thought it would be appropriate to introduce a few of the designers of color representing this time around.
37-year old Carmen of Sistahs of Harlem stands out with her cleverly coiffed faux hawk, and killer resume (She’s been designing since the age of 12 and interned under Christian LaCroix’s protégé in Paris!). She calls Charlotte, North Carolina her hometown and earned a degree in Architecture at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Get to know Carmen:
Ricky, 35, was born lucky #12 of 14 children in Escondido, California. He credits his fashion inspiration to his Mexican roots. Ricky began designing at an even younger age, 9! Ricky already has a line called Lizalde that he launched in 2004 (I’m starting to see a trend here). Get to know Ricky:
Victorya, 34, was born in Seoul, Korea but was raised in Virginia. She did undergrad at the University of Chicago, then traveled to Paris (yet, another trend) and did a 6-month turn 6-year stint as a journalist. One day she woke up and decided to go back to the U.S. to start a career in Fashion, and that’s just what she did earning a fashion degree at Parsons. Boy, is this woman driven! Get to know Victorya:
